Do you have Keratosis Pilaris?

Half the Population Has Keratosis Pilaris
And Most of Them Don’t Know It

Keratosis Pilaris (KP) is a very common skin condition often referred to as “chicken skin”. If you have keratosis pilaris, you are not alone. Worldwide, keratosis pilaris affects an estimated 40 to 50% of the adult population and approximately 50 to 80% of all adolescents. Varying in degree, cases of KP can range from minimal to severe.

Most people with Keratosis Pilaris don’t know they have it. While KP resembles goosebumps, it is characterized by the appearance of small, rough bumps on the skin. Primarily, it appears on the back and outer sides of the upper arms, but can also occur on thighs and buttocks or any body part except palms or soles. (Often confused with acne.)

Keratosis Pilaris is unsightly but completely harmless. KP tends to be worse during the winter months or other times of low humidity when the skin dries out. It may also occur and/or worsen among pregnant women or show up after childbirth.

There is no cure for Keratosis Pilaris, since KP is a chronic, genetic follicular disease, however treatments are available!!!!! Results from treatments vary and can often be disappointing. With persistence, most people will see satisfactory improvement. It is recommended that treatment not be discontinued because the buildup of keratin (the hard protein in the skin, nails, and hair) will continue to reform around the hair follicles.

There are several types of Keratosis Pilaris. The only type that we recommend using AngelFeet File on is the one that appears as rough, dry, bumpy skin with no irritation on the backs of arms and legs. We recommend a little filing every day instead of a lot of filing at once….progressive rather than aggressive.

In addition, products such as alpha hydroxy acid (glycolic and lactic acids), beta hydraoxy acid, vitamin A and benzoyl peroxide, that help remove the buildup of dead skin cells are helpful; as is scrubs, exfoliating gloves and microdermabrasion.

A Cool Tool: Best Foot File

One of our readers found this post and sent it to us. Thanks Russ!

best foot file, review
What is that little thing? Actually, that’s a foot file. Really. And it is one great little tool!

I’ve used all sorts of items on my feet. Some require batteries, some are demonstrated on TV against balloons. While I’m still using that PedEgg for hard care foot maintenance, sometimes I want just less abrasion. Or I want to clean up after the PedEgg. Whatever. I like to have a foot file in the shower. I like the ones from Best Foot File because the stainless steel won’t rust, they’re pretty indestructible and when I rinse it off really do feel as though it gets clean. Unlike pumice stones, which make me wonder what is stuck in them.

One of the most fearful disasters through these economic times is not knowing if your business can pull through.  Especially if you’re dumping money on things you don’t need to.

Angelfeet Pedicure files can help you by:

  1. Minimizing the cost of buying and restocking pedicure files monthly.

  3. Cut down on waste.
  4. Impress your clients to a safe tool for them to come back.
  5. Eliminating the need to use a 2nd pedicure file on the same foot.

Has your business calculated how much you spend on pedicure files yearly?

Now the answer to that question……………. is another article to read.

Safe Pedicures and Manicures

I was doing some research on how safe pedicures should be and stumbled upon Paula Abdul’s safety problem in 2004.

paula“Paula Abdul appeared before California legislators Monday to nail manicure parlors – which she accused of unsanitary practices.

The American Idol judge, 43, said that in April 2004 she had been treated with unclean equipment at a Studio City nail shop, resulting in frequent trips to the hospital and making her a target for late-night comics’ jokes.

“Being a professional dancer, I’m no stranger to pain, but this time the pain was so excruciating that even my hair touching my thumb caused me to scream,” Abdul told the California Senate Business and Professions Committee in Sacramento, the Associated Press reports.

Abdul is pushing for safety standards for manicure and pedicure equipment and a rewriting of state regulations mandating that nail shops follow sanitary practices to avoid leaving customers vulnerable to bacterial infections.

“I was publicly humiliated,” Abdul said in her closing statement. “That is why with an open heart and a selfless agenda, I implore you to pass this bill.”

The law, sponsored by Democratic Assemblyman Leland Yee, is expected to pass in committee. Once that takes place, it would likely come before the full Senate sometime in the next two weeks.”

Recession Proof

What actions would your spa/salon take to save money during the recession?

Here’s one that might help.

On average Salon’s/Spa’s waste approx. 2,600 pedicure files a year.  If each file cost about $1 each, you’re wasting $2,600 each year!  Not to mention the time frame it takes to scrub a pedicure file on a clients foot and have to replace it after 5 minutes of use.

Save time and money with Angelfeet.

Our Angelfeet pedicure files range from $25 - $80 and each are made to last approx. 1,500 pedicures or more!  You can also cut time in half because of our special raised patented pyramids working in every direction so you don’t have to scrub as hard.

So if you’re looking for a way to lower your monthly/yearly cost, just remember this….
Save time and money with Angelfeet!

You can also forward this to a friend to help with them with the economy crisis!

Follow these footsteps with Angelfeet

Found this blog over at sleepingbeauty.com:

“Sinfully soft feet is a year round undertaking.  Don’t get too comfy in those bulky boots, soon it will be time to show off those heels again.  Unfortunately, left on their own, I have terribly calloused feet.  I don’t like to wear shoes, if I had the guts I would be barefoot 24/7.

Living in the North East makes that impossible but I somehow have renewed hope of keeping my heels in the best shape possible since I’ve found… Angelfeet Pedicure Files. I love that the file is one solid piece of steel.  No funky grooves or removable plates to deal with.  I also like that it’s rust proof.  NO rusty residue in my shower.  I’m loving the size, the mini version foot file fits perfectly in my hand and is easy to store.

There are four files available, all are double sided with coarse and fine on each side, I always start on coarse and end with fine.  Angelfeet professional is meant for technicians.  Angelfeet Mini is great for consumers.  I have the mini pro 1 but the main difference between the mini pro 1 and mini pro 2 is the shape of the file.  I like the rounded paddle, seems like I’m getting more coverage at one time.”

New and Notables from Spa Finder

I’ve been looking for reviews of our Angelfeet pedicure files online and found this post from Susie’s Spa Blog:

“AngelFeet: A surgical stainless-steel pedicure file. I liked that you can sterilize it after use and continually reuse it. Seems more “green” than throwing away all those individual nail files.”

Annoucing the new Angelfeet Pedicure Files

largepro

The Angelfeet® Pedicure File is the best foot file you can buy – at any price – and it’s the last file that you will ever need to buy. Why?

The Angelfeet® file features a revolutionary smoothing surface that will never wear out. Made from the finest quality surgical stainless steel, our innovative design incorporates hundreds of tiny pyramids working in all directions to safely remove dry, cracked and calloused skin. In fact, the safety of our Angelfeet™ Pedicure File is unparalleled in that there are no raised cutting blades.

As the Angelfeet® file removes dry and callused skin, it leaves behind only soft and healthy new skin. Other files continue to remove even new skin after the unwanted skin is gone. But the Angelfeet® file, because of its patented design, only smoothes the skin with further use.

Many states now require that professionally-used pedicure files be sterilized in a high-temperature autoclave-type oven. Most other pedicure files are unable to withstand this heating process. Since the Angelfeet® file is completely made of surgical stainless steel, this sterilization process poses no problem.

Our files may be used wet or dry, and are easily cleaned with soap and water. Recommended by podiatrists and professional pedicurists, the Angelfeet® pedicure files are ergonomically designed and properly weighted so that they are a pleasure to use.

We have personal single-sided files in fine, medium, and coarse. We also have a professional series that includes the Professional and Small Professional. These are double-sided files available in medium/fine or coarse/fine. Available also for retail are the Mini Pro I and Mini Pro II, they are 25% smaller than the large Professional files and a free pouch (Zebra or Leopard) is included with each purchase of either Mini Pro file.
